It’s May 2021! MelanList has designated this month to fulfill our promise of donating 10% of our revenue back into our communities. To ensure our funds have the maximum impact, we decided to focus on the housing insecure. By happenstance, we came across La Casa Sol, an AirBnB owned by a Black family who are true champions of the community. Their guesthouse started out as a reprieve for mothers with children seeking shelter and was a community labor of love with over $30,000 raised to construct and equip the housing retreat. Moved by this level of selflessness and targeted change, we just had to know more about this property. On a suburban street in Decatur, behind a tall wooded fence, you’ll find a holistic oasis with a colorful garden of collard greens, sage, and different mints. An old tree looms from over the neighbor’s fence acting as the perfect fulcrum for dazzling Edison lights across the backyard. The peace and serenity hugs you hello while closing distance to the Mid-century guest house.

We enjoyed our interview which was more like a casual chat between good friends in the warm breeze. The backyard space can be rented out for events and is an effortless vibe.

Taylor let us know that the nights donated came at the perfect time as a mother in need requested a stay shortly afterwards. Now that’s community impact!
